Lady Victory Returning Home Tuesday

Last updated on Tuesday, September 6, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Crews are preparing to hoist lady victory to the top of Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

Crews will use a crane to get the 21,000 pound statute back on the monument. The sculpture was first placed on the monument in 1893. She was taken down several months ago for cleaning and repair. 117 years of weather exposure necessitated the sculpture be taken apart, holes filled and joints re-welded.

She will be placed inside a steel cage for the 284-foot trip by crane to the top of the monument.

Lady Victory left Stout Field on Friday and drew plenty of crowds as she was on display on Monument Circle over the Labor Day weekend

Total cost of the project is an estimated $1.5 million.
