Lady Victory Returned To Monument Circle

Last updated on Monday, September 5, 2011

(Indianapolis) - The statue of Lady Victory has returned to Monument Circle, and will soon resume her customary place atop the soldiers and sailors monument.

Construction crews at stout field gently lowered the Victory statue onto a flatbed truck. She then got a police motorcycle escort back home to sit on the northwest quadrant of Monument Circle.

People can see her there until early Tuesday morning, when crews lift her back atop the monument.

General Stewart Goodwin, who oversees the downtown war memorials, says workers will do a final couple of weeks of work after the statue goes back up, to restore her original shine and lacquer over the welds made during the restoration work.

The 38-foot statue has topped the monument since 1893.
