Ivy Tech Helping Communities Recover

Last updated on Thursday, September 8, 2011

(UNDATED) - An auto communities consortium held at Ivy Tech this week hopes to help those communities recover.

20 community college were represented to help develop strategies to help out of work employees of the auto industry.

Indiana Ivy Tech President Tom Snyder says they see leading industries needing qualified employees to fill jobs. Snyder says the consortium was designed around making the laid-off employees aware of short-term certifications within one-year community college programs to help them prepare for work.

Snyder says Ivy Tech will launch a new welding program statewide for a 1 year certification program. He says program enrollees will have opportunities for high-paying jobs.
