Last updated on Friday, September 2, 2011

(UNDATED) - Indiana is currently ranked 4th nationally for railroad crossing collisions. In 2010, there were 112 railroad crossing collisions resulting in 40 people injured and 9 fatalities in the state.

Jessica Feder with Indiana Operation Lifesaver says " It takes a train over a mile to stop and that's just if its going 65 miles per hour and you're just not going to win."

This is Indiana Railroad Safety week. Indiana Operation Lifesaver, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Transportation, local law enforcement and railroad companies have joined forces to raise the public's awareness about the dangers of disregarding railroad crossings laws and trespassing laws.
