Coats At Post 9/11 Intelligence Hearings

(UNDATED) - U.S. Senator Dan Coats is among the Indiana-based lawmakers who are eyeing security in this post 9-11 era.

Coats is in Washington taking part in a series of joint intelligence hearings between the house and senate.

Coats says the U.S. Isn't necessarily safer today, but more prepared for terrorist attacks. He says the nation is no longer living beneath a false sense of security.

Coats says the effort has been expensive, but needed. The senator says so called "homegrown" terrorism is also an issue the nation must take examine closer.

Coats says it's difficult, but improving the first responder systems between fire, police and military departments better able to communicate with one another should also remain top priority.
