(UNDATED) - A former UFC fighter is stepping into another kind of ring.

Chris "Lights Out" Lytle says he will run against State Senator Beverly Gard in next year's election.

Lytle says he wants to start a new kind of person in state government.

The former MMA fighter says the move is a long time coming because he's been studying different aspects of economics and politics for several years, he also says he's worried about the future of his four kids. Lytle says his main issues are jobs and the economy.

Lytle is running as a Republican and would face Gard in the primary election.
