Musicians Dedicate Time, Music To State Fair Victims

Last updated on Friday, August 19, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Train and Maroon 5 held their concert as scheduled Thursday night but it took place at Conseco Fieldhouse instead of the Indiana State Fair as originally planned.

Thousands showed up for what became a benefit show for the victims of last Saturday's tragedy just before Sugarland was set to take the stage.

Both bands donated their performance fees to the fund raising money for the victims and their families.

The State Fair, Conseco Fieldhouse and all employees working the event also donated what they would have been paid for that night's work.

Sugarland Back On Stage Following Stage Collapse

(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) - Country music duo Sugarland took to the stage Thursday night for the first time since the stage rigging collapse at the Indiana State Fair last Saturday.

The band and crew members gathered on the stage in Albuquerque, New Mexico and asked for a moment of silence for those that were injured or killed in the collapse. The duo then performed an acoustic version of their song "Love" in memory of those affected.

Both Sugarland and their opening act Sarah Bareilles have had to adjust their performances because of the equipment lost in the collapse. The bands had rented some of their equipment to be able to perform.

Crew members were walking around the venue with t-shirts saying "In Loving Memory Of Our Brother Nathan Byrd." Byrd was working as a spotlight operator at the State Fair and was on top of the rigging when the stage collapsed. He died early Sunday morning and his funeral was held Thursday.

Sugarland said earlier in the week that they are planning a private memorial for the families of those who died in the collapse.
