Hoosiers Helping With Hurricane Irene Relief Efforts

Last updated on Monday, August 29, 2011

(UNDATED) - Indiana Red Cross volunteers continue to help North Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Irene.

Frank Kominowski of Martinsville says he was in Garner and Dunn North Carolina on Thursday and Friday and finally set up a shelter in Bailey, NC. Kominowski says over 60 people were in the shelter that he says had no power, no showers and no hot food but he says it was the best they could do.

He says as bad as it was Saturday night, it was business as usual since they are always the first ones to respond after a disaster.

Kominowski says he's also seen Red Cross vehicles from Ft. Wayne and Bloomington in the area as well.
