(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County health officials are concerned about a rabid bat found on the south side of Indianapolis.
The bat was seen flying through the Windsor Court Apartments.
John Althardt with the Marion County Health Department is urging anyone who may have come into contact with the bat to immediately call his office. The bat was recently found dead and tested positive for rabies.
The health department is especially concerned about a young man seen fishing at a lake in the neighborhood. Althardt says the bat was dive-bombing the fisherman.
MCHD says bats are the primary source of rabies deaths in the United States. Each year one or two people die from rabies which can take more than two months to fully develop.
