Terre Haute Officials Renaming Avenue After Fallen Officer

Last updated on Monday, July 18, 2011

(TERRE HAUTE, IN) - City officials in Terre Haute are honoring Fallen Officer Brent Long by memorializing a road in his name.

City Councilman Norm Laudermilk says a section of Brown Avenue will become Brent D. Long Memorial Way and will run past Memorial Stadium which honors war heroes.

He says at the end of the road is a new regional training center where Officer Long spent much time training with his canine and members of the Terre Haute PD Swat Team.

He says having the road pass both of those places seems fitting.

The idea for the memorial came from other Terre Haute police officers who contacted Laudermilk about honoring Officer Long.

Laudermilk drafted a proposal for the city council which passed Thursday night.

The actual name of the road will remain Brown Avenue but there will be signs along the road noting the memorial.

Laudermilk says it will take a few weeks to get the signs made and then he hopes to hold a dedication ceremony with long's family present.
