(RUSHVILLE, IN) - A teen is facing possible jail time for a school prank that caused the evacuation of Rushville High School.
18-year-old Tyell Morton could face eight years in prison after administrators thought someone was putting a suspicious package in a girls bathroom and evacuated the school.
Morton says he was just trying to put a blow up doll in the bathroom as a prank.
Joel Schumm, Clinical Professor of Law at the Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis says Morton is being charged with Institutional Criminal Mischief which means there was at least $2,500 in damage to the school, specifically to physical property or items in the school.
The rush county prosecutor's office is alleging there was $8,000 in damage to the school.
Schumm says he doesn't think the case will go to trial, and if it does and Morton is convicted, it could lead to a change in the law.
