(UNDATED) - Two new boating laws went into effect on July 1st regarding certain activities.
Teak surfing and wake surfing have both been banned from practice on Indiana waters.
DNR Conservation Officer Angela Goldman says teak surfing is when you're hanging off the back of the boat and body surfing.
Goldman says with wake surfing, you're on a surf board and hanging onto the boat via a very short rope but the catch is you have to be right up against the back end of the boat which causes a danger of getting caught in the propeller if you fall forward into the water.
Wake surfing is allowed with boats that have an inboard motor.
Teak surfing is banned on boats with any type of motor.
Violations could result in a $100 to $150 dollar ticket but Goldman adds the danger of getting caught in the propeller should be the main deterrent.
