Lugar Unveils 2011 Energy Plan On Facebook

Last updated on Friday, July 1, 2011

(WASHINGTON) - U.S. Senator Richard Lugar unveiled his 2011 practical energy plan via a live stream on his Facebook page Thursday morning.

The plan promises a break in the nation's dependence on foreign oil while saving ordinary people and the federal government money in energy costs.

Lugar says his plan is based on common sense practices like those he has witnessed on the local level in Indiana.

Lugar cited the Energy Education Program enacted by Warren Township Schools in Indianapolis that save the corporation $3 million dollars over 10 years.

He also cited Vectren Energy's proactive counseling with schools and towns on energy saving practices.

The plan calls for more domestic oil production, increased fuel efficiency in vehicles, incentives for energy performance in buildings, state partnership loans for industry.

Lugar says although the country is working on several other priority issues, now is the time to introduce the legislation to allow legislators and the public time to learn how the plan will work.
