Indiana Attorney Says Congress Is Using Wrong Techniques In Debt Ceiling

Last updated on Tuesday, July 26, 2011

(UNDATED) - An Indiana attorney and mediator says President Obama and Congress are using the wrong techniques when it comes to working out a deal regarding the nation’s debt ceiling.

Bob Burkett says the two sides are using techniques such as "forcing" where one party imposes its will on the other telling them what they can or should do.

He says that technique only works when one side is more powerful than the other which he doesn't think is the case in Washington.

Burkett says there needs to be a mediator of some sort in this case because he feels the tension between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner is obvious.

Burkett says he would try to focus on what both sides do agree on and work from there.

If that doesn't work, he says he would say each side has to give up something in a compromise.
