Last updated on Wednesday, July 13, 2011

(TERRE HAUTE, IN) - Terre Haute Police are helping the family of one of their own lay him to rest. Funeral arrangements are being made for Officer Brent Long.

The Vigo County Coroner's report says Long suffered two gunshot head wounds, one of which was fatal.

They're not releasing the type of weapon believed to have been used by 33-year-old Shaun Seeley.

Seeley lived at 1812 N. 8th Street in a house divided into four rental units.

Long was among a group of officers and a k-9 serving Seeley a probation violation warrant Monday afternoon.

They say several people exited the house, but Seeley remained inside. Upon entering, they say Seeley opened fire hitting Long.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts says Seeley was fatally shot in gunfire exchange, but couldn't say whether it was Long who fired the deadly shot.

Long was hospitalized and Lifelined to Indianapolis, but later died of his wounds.

Neighbors and Terre Haute residents say they're stunned that an officer was killed in the line of duty.

Long is a six year veteran of the Terre Haute Police Department and leaves behind a wife and two kids.
