(FRANKLIN, IN) - The Johnson County Sheriff and Franklin Police Dive Teams helped rescue and family of nine trapped in their home by high water.

Sheriff's Corporal Randy Werden says the water rose too quickly around the home and was too high and moving too fast for the family to cross safely.

Werden says the dive teams used zodiac boats to bring the 3 adults and 6 children and their belongings across the yard to higher ground.

Werden says the family did the right thing be staying put and waiting for help to arrive.

Too often people underestimate the power of the water and try to drive or walk through it only to get stuck or worse.

Werden says the dive teams had to rescue a few other motorists who were stranded in high water that was too high and fast to walk through Monday afternoon.
