(KENDALLVILLE, IN) - Five cases of measles have been confirmed by the Indiana State Health Department.
All are in Noble County in Northeast Indiana.
State Health Commissioner Dr. Gregory Larkin warns that even one case of measles is considered an outbreak due to the rarity of infection.
He suspects unimmunized Hoosiers who traveled abroad, foreign visitors to the state, and others who came into contact with infected travelers are to blame.
Larkin is calling on parents to get their children vaccinated against measles, as many have started to spread out vaccinations over fears the shots lead to autism.
