(UNDATED) - An Indiana father of college students says the rising cost of tuition is just a part of life.
Ed Muir has two daughters, one a recent Butler graduate and the other a Junior at Indiana University.
Muir says it is a little bit of struggle to pay, but he accepts it as a part of being a parent of which he has no control.
Muir, who is also a financial planner, says parents who intend to help their children through school should make a 6% to 8% annual tuition increase a part of their college savings plan.
He says while he and his wife decided to let their daughters go to school where they wanted, several of his clients say they intend to send their kids only to state schools because of the costs.
The base tuition cost of public universities is on average cheaper than private institutions.
Muir says there are lots of ways families can pay for college including various scholarships, grants, and loans.
He says it just takes an attitude of "making it work" no matter what and constantly looking for opportunities.
