(UNDATED) - Gun owners will have more places they can legally bring the weapon without a license, under a law taking effect next Friday.
You're already allowed to have a gun in your house.
The new law extends that to your entire property, or someone else's if you have permission.
And it lets you carry an unloaded gun in a vehicle, as long as it's in a case and not readily accessible.
Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police President Bill Owensby says as long as officers know there's a gun in the car, it's not likely to be a problem.
He cautions anyone with a gun in the car, licensed or not, should speak up.
Police will likely take it, confirm it's not stolen, then return it when they release you, but they don't want to be taken by surprise.
But Owensby notes the people who know their new rights under the law aren't likely to be the ones police worry about anyway.
