Fallen Firefighter Described As 'Super Dad, Super Husband'

Last updated on Friday, June 17, 2011

(MUNCIE, IN) - The widow of a fallen firefighter is speaking through tremendous grief about her husband’s death, thanking his colleagues and other members of the community for their support.

40-year-old Muncie Firefighter Scott Davis died Wednesday night when the roof of the Tabernacle of Praise Church collapsed on top of him as he attempted to battle the blaze.

Raeanne Davis describes her husband as a man of faith, and says she's finding comfort in the location where he died.

Davis spoke through tears Thursday morning as she thanked fellow firefighters for circling the spot where her husband was found in the rubble, eventually saluting the body as it was taken from the scene.

Scott Davis, a former Fire Chief in nearby Yorktown, is also survived by his three children.

Muncie Fire Chief Sean Burcham described him as a "super dad and super husband" who loved to farm.

Burcham says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The department has brought in an "intervention team" from the Indianapolis Fire Department to help the MFD cope with the death.

Flags throughout Muncie and Yorktown are being flown at half-staff to honor Davis.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
