Commission Unveils Vision For GM Stamping Plant

Last updated on Monday, June 27, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A commission unveiled its vision for the GM stamping plant in Indianapolis, a vision the panel admits could take more than a decade to take shape.

That vision, according to former Indianapolis Mayor Bill Hudnut and the Urban Land Institute, a non-profit advisory group, would be a massive, mixed-use project tied to downtown.

It would feature a variety of residences from lofts to houses on tree-lined streets, retail stores, restaurants, businesses, a school, long-term care facilities and hospice, to perhaps even a business incubator to draw entrepreneurs and researchers from IUPUI.

GM will soon end operations at the plant.
