(SHELBYVILLE) - Shelby County officials hope to hear from the National Weather Service on the source of damage there.

Emergency Management Director Mike Shantz says a survey team was called in to look at a damage area that he considered suspicious. Shantz says the team wanted to compare their radar data with their notes for the survey before determining if a tornado touched down. Shantz says there was also evidence of straight line wind damage in the county.

Local officials will assess conditions to see if the county meets the criteria for state assistance for debris removal.

Shantz says about 12 houses were damaged with one or two reporting considerable damage.

EMA officials also spent part of Thursday fixing a tornado siren north of Shelbyville that was struck by lightning.
