(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - In a couple of days, two homeless veterans will move off the streets of Indianapolis and into a newly rehabbed home.
The house is the 15th put in service by the nonprofit group HVAF of Indiana, which finds transitional housing for homeless Indiana veterans.
This house will pair two of them with two vets moving from another HVAF property.
The house was donated to HVAF, and a $28,000 grant from Home Depot paid for new siding, flooring and cabinets, as well as a paint job.
The veterans will move in this weekend after those renovations are complete.
HVAF provides housing for up to two years, while veterans receive job training and other assistance to help them get back on their feet.
John Jones, who moved into HVAF Housing after he was laid off two years ago, has been assigned as house manager, keeping track of urine tests and curfews and delegating household chores. He says he's excited about the move."
"As you can see, everything is going to be new, they're rehabbing the whole house from top to bottom and it seems like it's a better neighborhood," Jones says.
