Greensburg Airport Sustains Damage During Storms

Last updated on Thursday, May 26, 2011

(GREENSBURG) - The Greensburg airport sustained a lot of damage from the storms that passed through Wednesday afternoon.

Airport Manager Jerry Scheidler says the buildings are still standing but high winds ripped the roofs and doors off hangers and the hail damaged airplanes inside.

The airport is home to private aircraft and a skydive school.

Scheidler says approximately 8 aircraft were damaged, mostly by hail. Scheidler says he doesn't believe the airport was struck by a tornado because the wind damage appears to lie in straight line.

He says it was too early to get an estimate on monetary damages.
