Daniels Says Chances Of Beating Obama Are 'Quite Good'

Last updated on Wednesday, May 11, 2011

(UNDATED) - Governor Daniels says he believes his chances of beating President Obama are “quite good.”

But the Governor says his decision on whether to run for president does not hinge on his odds of winning.

Daniels declines to go into all the factors which might lead him to skip the race, but acknowledges, as he has before, that the potential impact on his family as a key consideration.

Daniels says Republicans and their eventual nominee need to "treat voters as grown-ups" and offer serious proposals to combat a ballooning national debt, whether he runs or not.

Daniels' Public Confidence in his chances is a switch from when the presidential talk first started after his landslide reelection in 2008.

He said then he wouldn't run, in part because he wouldn't win.

He now says that was an unsuccessful attempt to quash the speculation before it got rolling.
