(CARMEL, IN) - Police in Carmel are searching for suspects in several catalytic converter thefts over the last two weeks.
Carmel Police Lt. Jeff Horner says most of the thefts occurred on Toyota trucks and SUVs parked at businesses.
He says suspects crawled underneath the vehicles and used some type of saw to cut pipes and steal the converters.
Catalytic converters are popular targets for thieves nationwide because they contain platinum and other metals.
Late-model Toyota trucks and SUVs are popular targets because of their high distance from the ground, making it easier for thieves to get underneath them.
Other scrap metal theft cases have come to light recently.
Last week, two men were arrested for stealing scrap metals from a farm in Hamilton County.
Also three residents from Martinsville were arrested after being caught stealing scrap metal from a home.
Also in Martinsville, a 250 gallon water tank was stolen from the Eastview Christian Church for the second year in a row.
Morgan County Sheriff Robert Downey told Fox59 that they believe the tank was stolen because of its aluminum casing.
