Ball State Storm Chasers Heading To Joplin, Missouri

Last updated on Tuesday, May 24, 2011

(MUNCIE, IN) - Following the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri, a group of Ball State Storm Chasers is heading to the state to track more storms.

Dr. David Call with the Ball State Storm Chasers says that one of the main reasons why the tornado in Joplin was so devastating was because it was hard to see because it was surrounded by curtains of rain in the storm.

The Ball State Storm Chasers are heading to Kansas City to hopefully study more storms in the area, but Dr. Call says he hopes they don't run into another storm like the one in Joplin.

Dr. Call says they use human and computer model forecasts to come up with a target area for storms and they also monitor the live radar to make sure they're safely away from danger.
