House Votes To Defund Planned Parenthood

Last updated on Thursday, April 28, 2011

(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana House voted 66-32 Wednesday on a bill that would cut $3 million in federal funding to Planned Parenthood of Indiana.

Betty Cockrum, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana, says some of their 28 centers around the state could be closed if the bill is signed into law.

The bill also limits the amount of time a woman has to get an abortion at 20 weeks, which Cockrum says is unconstitutional.

The bill also defines the beginning of human life as the time of conception.

The bill now goes to the desk of Governor Mitch Daniels for final approval.

Cockrum says if Daniels does not veto the bill, then Planned Parenthood of Indiana will take legal action.
