Half Of Americans Popping Vitamin Pills

Last updated on Thursday, April 14, 2011

(FORT WAYNE, IN) - The government says half of Americans are popping vitamins pills in order to get the nutrition they need.

Doctor Deborah McMahon with the Allen County Public Health Department says it is important to shoot for a complete food diet instead of relying on the easy way to get nutrition.

Mcmahon also says the jury is still out on how effective some supplements will be, but she says whatever you take, make sure you do your homework first, and research any vitamins you use.

The Centers for Disease Control says more than half of American adults are taking dietary supplements, and a big chunk of that are women loading up on calcium to prevent bone loss.
