(STATEHOUSE) - On the same day the Indiana Senate Public Policy Committee rejected a proposal that would have enacted a statewide smoking ban, Governor Mitch Daniels signed a bill Wednesday designed to keep tobacco products out of the hands of minors.
The law will require retailers to keep dissolvable and other tobacco products behind counters.
The newly-signed law exempts tobacco stores, as they already require customers to be 18-years-old to enter.
A person or retail establishment who sells or distributes a tobacco product to a person less than 18-years of age would be charged with a Class C Infraction. It goes into effect July 1st.
