Decision Expected Over Secretary Of State's Legal Status

Last updated on Thursday, April 7, 2011

(STATEHOUSE) - A decision will come today over whether Secretary of State Charlie White is legally qualified to serve in office.

Democrats say White committed voter fraud and was ineligible to run or serve as Secretary of State.

They filed a lawsuit claiming the state recount commission wrongly dismissed their challenge to White's election in December.

White's Attorney Jim Bopp claims the democrat party "gamed" the system by waiting to file the suit till after the election, because they wanted Democrat Vop Osili to be named Secretary of State after White was thrown out of office.

Democrat Party Attorney Karen Celestino-Hoarseman says they could not have filed the suit any earlier.

The judge will make a decision at 3:30PM Thursday.
