(STATEHOUSE) - Legislation modifying state abortion regulations has passed the Indiana House by a 72-23 vote.
The bill makes most abortions illegal after 20 weeks.
Current law restricts most abortions after the fetus is considered viable, which is around 24 weeks.
The bill also requires abortion providers to inform patients about possible risks, including the possibility of breast cancer.
The bill also requires a pregnant woman seeking an abortion to view the ultrasound unless she states, in writing, that she does not want to view the images.
The legislation also prohibits qualified health plans under the Federal Health Care Reform Law from providing coverage for the abortion.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
