Bosma, Bauer Negotiate Over Democratic Walkout

Last updated on Friday, March 25, 2011

(STATEHOUSE) - House Minority Leader Patrick Bauer and Speaker Brian Bosma have had their first face-to-face negotiations over the democratic walkout in three weeks, but for now, at least, the walkout continues.

All sides characterize what Bosma says was a "chance meeting" as a positive exchange of ideas.

But Michigan City Democrat Scott Pelath cautions that's not the same as having a resolution in sight.

Bosma says the current sticking point remains a bill governing when to require union labor in public works contracts.

He's still adamant the only concessions he'll make is to talk about amendments that can be voted on by the full house.

Fines against 38 awol democrats have reached $3,150.
