Opponents Of "Right To Work" Law Pressuring Statehouse

Last updated on Friday, January 7, 2011

(INDIANA STATEHOUSE) - Opponents of a so-called “right to work” law are keeping the pressure on at the statehouse.

A day after house democrats invoked a seldom-used rule to force a vote to try to kill the bill without a hearing, the Indiana AFLCIO dispatched 75 grocery and food-processing workers to the statehouse to lobby against the bill.

22 states have right-to-work laws, which forbid "closed shops" where workers must join a union.

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is lobbying for the bill, saying those states have an advantage in attracting new jobs.
