(UNDATED) - The State Fire Marshall's Office still has an ample supply of special smoke detectors designed for the deaf and hard of hearing free for the taking.
State Fire Marshall Jim Greeson says his office has given away about half of the 1200 detectors purchased for Hoosier residents in need.
Greeson says the state received a grant to purchase the detectors, which run about 250 to 300 dollars per unit.
The detectors are free to deaf and hard-of-hearing residents in need.
