Grissom Air Force Base Listed As Evacuation Site During Hurricanes

Last updated on Friday, September 3, 2010

(PERU, IN) - Grissom Air Force base near Peru could end up with some house guests, depending on the path taken by hurricanes Earl and Fiona.

Grissom is an official evacuation site for the air force if a storm is strong enough to threaten aircraft on east coast bases.

It hosted the 1st fighter wing when Hurricane Isabel drenched Virgnia's Langley Air Force Base in 2003.

Grissom Spokesman Lt. Col. Gary Lockard says there's been no sign an evacuation is in the works, but says Grissom would need only a few hours'notice.
