Indiana Raising School Standards

Last updated on Wednesday, August 4, 2010

(INDIANA STATEHOUSE) - Indiana is raising its school standards again.

Instead of the federal government imposing school standards, every state except Texas and Alaska worked together to create the common core state standards each state could implement on its own.

The goal of the standards is to set clear and consistent standards nationwide for the language and math tools students need to succeed, with the uniformity making it easier to measure progress.

The State Board of Education voted Tuesday to adopt the standards.
