(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A national study says families in homeless shelters have increased 7% this year compared with 2009.
Steve Kerr, Chief Development Officer with wheeler mission in Indianapolis says they have seen an increase mainly in families where it is women and children only.
He says especially in the summertime, men seem more able to find a place to stay when the weather is nicer.
He says turning to homelessness is a direct result of the economy.
Each night, they consistently sleep 60 women and children at their 6 locations.
