Grassroots Effort Reconnecting With First-Time Voters

Last updated on Monday, June 14, 2010

(UNDATED) - A grassroots organization of the Democratic National Committee is trying to reconnect with Hoosiers who went to the polls for the first time in 2008.

Volunteers for "Organizing for America-Indiana" have kicked off a nearly five month statewide effort to help ensure the state's 333,000 first-time voters return to the polls this fall.

The DNC is trying to build support for midterm election candidates who it says will be strong allies for President Obama in congress.

John Spears, Director of Organizing For America in Indiana, says it's the earliest kick-off of door-to-door political canvassing by either party for a general or midterm election.
