Despite Rain, Groundbreaking Of New Wishard Hospital Still Takes Place

Last updated on Thursday, May 13, 2010

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The rainy weather didn’t dampen Wednesday’s ceremonial groundbreaking of the new Wishard Hospital on the campus of IUPUI.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and Wishard CEO and Medical Director Dr. Lisa Harris joined other community leaders braving the wet conditions to turn over dirt just east of the Roudebush V.A. Medical Center.

Marion county residents voted in favor of the 37-acre, $754 million project in November.

Although it carries a high price tag, planners expect the new hospital to bring about 4,400 construction jobs to Indianapolis.

The facility has a completion date of late 2013.
