Statehouse Session Adjorned Until Next Week

Last updated on Friday, March 5, 2010

(STATEHOUSE) - Lawmakers will return to the Indiana Statehouse next week, unable to meet a targeted early adjournment deadline of Thursday night.

House Speaker Patrick Bauer (D-South Bend) pulled the plug on his own artificial deadline and adjourned the session until Wednesday afternoon.

But the decision caught members of the opposing party off-guard, including house Minority Leader Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis). He says legislators were close to reaching compromises on bills dealing with unemployment insurance premium increases and school funding. He expressed frustration that the extra week will cost taxpayers.

Under state law, legislators have until March 14 at midnight to pass bills.
