Committee Approves Delay On Tax Increase

Last updated on Thursday, February 18, 2010

(INDIANA STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana House Labor and Employment Committee voted Wednesday to approve a bill that would delay a one-year tax increase the employers pay into the unemployment insurance fund.

Supporters say it's a way to help promote job growth in a struggling economy.

But opponents argue lawmakers should not turn back after agreeing last year to start fixing the fund.

House Speaker Patrick Bauer has suggested that fellow democrats might use the bill as a vehicle for a job-creation plan in his caucus.
