(MUNCIE, IN) - A Ball State study finds Indiana’s most metropolitan counties pay out more in taxes than they receive in state spending, while rural counties tend to come out ahead.
The report finds 22 of Indiana's 92 counties pay a combined 8,800 dollars per person more in taxes than they take in.
Researchers calculated the total amount of tax collections for every state tax levied in Indiana, from income taxes to taxes on insurance premiums.
The range of state spending is even broader, covering schools, highway projects, health care, the salaries of state workers, and everything else in the state budget.
