(INDIANA STATEHOUSE) - A state senator has authored a bill dealing with "sexting."
Republican Jim Merritt of Indianapolis feels the current punishment for "sexting", which is similar to a class C or D felony, is too harsh.
Merritt's bill would establish "sexting" as a delinquent act of a minor creating, transmitting or possessing a photograph, video or other material that shows someone under age in a state of nudity.
Minors caught "sexting" would be dealt with in juvenile court and the punishment would be similar to a truancy or curfew violation.
Eleven states considered "sexting" legislation last year.
