Nurse Shortage Likely To Continue

Last updated on Monday, January 18, 2010

(UNDATED) - The shortage of nurses across the state will likely continue despite keen student interest in training for the profession.

Susan Nelson, a regional chair of Ivy Tech's Nursing Department, says there are two factors restricting the number of graduates from nursing programs.

One is a lack of qualified instructors.

To teach nursing, a nurse must earn a master's degree or be working toward one.

But Nelson also says a teaching nurse can't earn as much as one who works in a hospital.

Nurses pursuing a master's degree to become a teaching nurse.
