(FRANKLIN, IN) - Inmates who incur medical bills while in the Johnson County Jail could be ordered to reimburse the county for their treatment under a policy the sheriff and prosecutor want to reinstate.
The sheriff's office says rising medical costs have pushed the county over budget.
Prosecutor Brad Cooper says the concept is similar to other sentencing requirements that include restitution to a victim.
But he also acknowledges that collecting medical costs could be difficult.
