Another Hearing Held For Proposed Property Tax Caps

Last updated on Tuesday, December 8, 2009

(INDIANA STATEHOUSE) - Another hearing was held Monday on proposed property tax caps.

The house ways and means committee heard public testimony on potentially placing property tax caps permanently into the Indiana Constitution.

Proponents say it's an issue of fair assessments, while opponents say it could seriously hurt public education budgets across the state.

Meanwhile, the senate tax and fiscal policy committee plans to vote today on the same measure.

If approved, the bill would become eligible for action by the full state senate when the session begins early next month.

Voters would also have to approve the caps during the next election.

The house ways and means committee is not expected to vote until next Monday.
