(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Today marks the 68th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy, the event that forced the United States into World War II.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, who has spearheaded commemorative events for veterans of the Vietnam and Korean wars, will honor Hoosier World War II veterans on Saturday.

Vietnam Veteran Paul Cauley has been instrumental in organizing the events.

He says the recognition ceremony will feature live music from the World War II era and veterans recounting the conduct of the war on both the European and Pacific fronts.

Through private funds, commemorative medals and coins have been struck and will be presented to the veterans and surviving family members.

Cauley says the U.S. is losing about 1,100 aging World War II veterans each day, so time is of the essence to express gratitude for their service.

The event in Indianapolis is at 1:00PM Saturday, December 12th at the American Legion Post #64, located at 601 South Holt Road.
