Police Sergeant Dies In Car Wreck

(WARSAW, IN) - A 15-year veteran of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was killed in a car crash while on duty Thursday.

Sergeant Jeffrey Shaw died after a flatbed truck slammed into his squad car on State Road 14.

Investigators say it appears that the truck driver, 53-year-old Steven Byerly of Fort Wayne, was hauling a load of scaffolding, drove off the side of the road, hit some loose gravel, over-corrected, then lost control.
