(UNDATED) - A year after electing a governor, 25 state senators and the entire Indiana house, most Hoosier voters have this year off.

But today is still election day in Marion County and five others.

Marion County's Franklin Township schools and districts in Beech Grove, Batesville, Tell City-Troy, and Southern Wells say they need more money for day-to-day operations than state tax caps will allow.

They're asking voters to approve the extra tax hikes.

Marion County's Perry Township schools and the southwest Dubois County schools are seeking approval of extra taxes for renovation projects.

And all Marion County voters can cast ballots on authorizing construction of a new $750 million dollar Wishard Hospital.

The Wishard project requires voter approval because it will be funded through property tax dollars, but Wishard officials maintain no increase in tax rates will be required.

Opponents are skeptical. Voters still need to bring a photo ID to the polls.

The court of appeals has declared the ID law unconstitutional, but the law is still in effect while the Indiana Supreme Court considers an appeal.

The referendum ballots mean polls will be open throughout Marion County and in parts of Dubois, Wells, Perry, Ripley and Franklin counties.

The Batesville School District straddles the Ripley-Franklin county line.

No candidates are on the ballot in Indiana. Voters are choosing governors in Virginia and New Jersey, and an upstate New York Congressional District is holding a special election to replace Republican Rep.

John Mchugh, who resigned to join the Obama Administration as secretary of the army.
